A Fantastic Antique Victorian Silver-Plated Wall Plaque signed by LS Merrifield (Leonard Stanford Merrifield). The wall plaque depicts the renowned actor Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree playing Svengali. Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree portrayed the character of Svengali in the 1895 London production of George du Maurier's 'Trilby'.
This type of object would have been intended as a commemorative or presentation piece, suitable for a study, club setting, or collector’s display. The overall presentation is theatrical in character, reinforced by the cast crest at the top featuring comedy and tragedy masks. There is an integrated hanging loop at the top.
