An Unusual Antique Victorian Silver Plated Cigar Trolley table centrepiece modelled as a small cart on four wheels. At the centre is a scallop shell shaped dish with a warm gilt interior, designed to serve as an ashtray. Around the rim are multiple upright cylindrical holders, used to hold cigars. The back of the trolley incorporates a candlestick socket - used as a cigar lighter. And a small hinged lidded box sits behind the candle socket and provides a discreet compartment for matches – circa 1860.
* This cigar trolley would have been placed in the centre of the table once the ladies had withdrawn for the evening, and rolled up and down the table as the gentlemen enjoyed their cigars!
Measurements:
Height to top of candlestick: 5 1/2" (approx. 14cm)
Width: 9" (approx. 23cm)
Depth: 6" (approx. 15cm)
Total weight: 515g
In good condition – The trolley presents well overall with an attractive contrast between the silver plated exterior and gilt interior bowl. There is only light surface wear consistent with age and careful use.
