A Really Stunning Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Butter Dish modelled as a deeply fluted scallop shell with a shaped and scalloped outer edge, sitting on three nicely modelled shell shaped feet. Elaborate chased floral decoration fills the raised side panels and gives the surface considerable depth and texture. A vacant heart-shaped cartouche is positioned at the upper edge beneath scrolling ornament.
The accompanying butter spreader has a broad rounded blade engraved with sprays of flowers and foliage. Both pieces are presented in their original shaped fitted case lined with burgundy velvet and gathered red satin. Hallmarked for Sheffield, 1894.
* The richly modelled shell transforms a practical table accessory into an accomplished piece of Victorian silverwork!
