A Really Splendid Pair of Antique Grand Tour Gilt Bronze Trumpet Vases. Each vase has a flared, petal-form rim that echoes a classical flower. A decorative pierced collar below the rim adds a jewellery-like band of ornament. Both vases stand on stepped circular bases raised on four paw feet, a motif frequently used in classical revival metalwork. As a pair they are particularly effective for symmetrical placement on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table – circa 1880.
* These pieces bring the classical, continental character of the Grand Tour into a modern interior.
