A Nice Pair of Antique Grand Tour Bronze Candlesticks each modelled as the biblical figure Samson. Depicted as a muscular, semi-nude strongman supporting the candleholders above, these candlesticks embody both heroic symbolism and classical artistry. Popular with 19th-century travellers on the Grand Tour, such pieces drew inspiration from biblical narratives and Renaissance sculpture, blending faith, history, and art into decorative objects for elite homes -circa 1870.
It is important to note that one of the candlesticks has had an old repair at the base of the drip tray which has left some scarring. This has been shown in the photographs for accuracy, but the piece remains stable and displays beautifully.
Measurements:
Height: 7 1/4" (approx. 18.5cm)
Diameter of base: 3 3/4" (approx. 9.5cm)
