A Nice Military Enamel Sign Reading ‘Stirrup Hand Pump Available’ (Army Issue). Made of enamel on steel, the sign features strong cream lettering against a dark brown ground, designed to withstand weather exposure and heavy use. Its simplicity and durability reflect the practical, no-nonsense nature of military equipment and signage. Two original fixing holes at each end allowed it to be bolted to walls, storage racks, or doors in service areas.
During the early to mid-20th century - particularly throughout WWI and WWII - stirrup pumps were essential equipment. In civilian life, they were indispensable for cycling and motoring; in the military context, they became even more crucial for maintaining mobility under rugged field conditions. Enamel signs like this ensured clarity and quick access, helping to streamline operations where efficiency could be a matter of survival.
