A Magnificent Victorian Silver-Plated Claret Jug with a beautiful handle cast as a grape vine. This claret jug has a flip up lid decorated with a grape vine shaped finial. The body is generously hand engraved with grape and vine decoration and sits on a pedestal base. The front is engraved with the crest of a Swan with the Latin phrase Sine Macula’ - translating to Without Blemish’. This beautiful claret jug isn’t marked but this isn’t uncommon for items of the 1860’s. It was probably made by one of the notorious companies of the era such as Elkington & Co - circa 1860.
*This is probably the best silver-plated Claret Jug I have seen in the last 40 years.
