A Lovely Large Pair of J. Kent Fenton Blue & White Transferware Vases , richly decorated with pastoral landscape scenes. Each piece is made in glazed earthenware and finished in a deep cobalt transfer print with finely layered shading. The designs show cottages, trees, figures and animals in a traditional romantic style associated with early twentieth-century revival wares.
Both vases have characterful sculpted handle details, including pierced oval side openings that give a distinctive architectural silhouette. The shoulders and sides are patterned with an all-over floral and foliate border that frames the main scene attractively. The bases are marked ‘J. Kent, Fenton, England – Ye Old Foley Ware’ – circa 1920.
* The dense cobalt transfer printing gives these vases a depth and atmosphere that feels like an illustrated countryside vignette.
