An Unusual Large Antique Victorian Silver Plated Spoon Warmer in a sculptural Nautilus shell-form design with a hinged lid. The main body is gilt all over, giving the piece a warm, golden finish. The pedestal base contrasts in a silver plated tone, creating a deliberate two-tone presentation.
The exterior is finely engraved with radiating and undulating lines that echo the natural striations of a sea shell. The lid includes a shaped cut-out at the front, allowing a spoon handle to sit neatly while the bowl rests inside. Marked ‘JS&S’ for the maker ‘J Sherwood & Sons, Regent Works, Birmingham’ – circa 1870.
* It is the kind of small luxury that suits collectors of antique tablewares and dining curiosities.
