Antique Victorian Silver Plated and Mahogany Bottle Coasters circa 1880

A handsome set of four Victorian silver plated and mahogany bottle coasters, dating to circa 1880. Each coaster combines a warm-toned circular mahogany base with a finely pierced silver plated gallery, creating a pleasing contrast between the rich wood and bright metalwork.

The galleries feature an intricate repeating geometric pattern, finished with delicate beaded borders and plain lower rims. The mahogany bases are decorated with concentric turned rings, surrounding circular silver plated centres engraved with a finely detailed stag. The undersides have green felt-covered bottoms to help protect the table surfaces.

We particularly like the engraved stags, which give these coasters a distinctive character without overpowering their elegant design. The combination of pierced galleries, rich mahogany and matching stag motifs makes this an especially appealing set of four, ideal for presenting wine bottles at the dining table or displaying on a sideboard.
