An attractive antique Victorian sterling silver jewellery box, hallmarked in Birmingham in 1893, with a charming heart-shaped design and wonderfully elaborate decoration. The domed hinged lid is richly embossed with sweeping scrollwork, flowers and foliage surrounding a raised, plain central cartouche, while the shaped edges are finished with a decorative scalloped border.
The sides are equally well detailed, with engraved floral and scrolling patterns extending around the box and a matching shaped border to the base. Opening the lid reveals a gilt interior, with further decorative embossing to the underside of the lid and around the upper interior walls. We particularly like the combination of the romantic heart shape, the elaborate floral decoration and the warm golden interior, which work beautifully together.
A delightful piece of Victorian silver, perfect for keeping small pieces of jewellery or treasured keepsakes, and equally appealing as a decorative addition to a dressing table.
