A charming antique Edwardian sterling silver box, dating to 1908, with an attractive octagonal form and richly decorative finish. The hinged lid features a detailed scene depicting a cherub digging in a garden, surrounded by trees, a fence and a rising sun, while the sides are embellished with flowing scrollwork in relief.

Opening the box reveals a gilt interior with further embossed decoration, including a delightful scene of a cherub carrying a basket through a garden, with trees and a fence in the background. We particularly like the decorative treatment of the interior, which is every bit as interesting as the exterior and gives the box an added element of surprise when opened.

The box bears London hallmarks for 1908, together with import marks. With its charming figural scenes and intricate detailing, this is an appealing little silver box, ideal for keeping small treasured items or displaying on a dressing table or desk.
