An elegant antique Victorian claret jug, dating to circa 1880, featuring a tall, tapering cut glass body with decorative silver plated mounts. The glass is beautifully decorated with an intricate arrangement of intersecting diamond cuts and radiating star patterns, creating a sparkling geometric design that extends down to the circular base.
The silver plated collar features engraved floral decoration surrounding a vacant oval cartouche, framed by decorative ribbon borders. A graceful, elongated handle with scroll detailing complements the shaped pouring spout, while the hinged domed lid is finished with an ornamental finial and delicate engraved embellishments. With its impressive proportions and combination of decorative silver plate and finely cut glass, this claret jug would make an attractive centrepiece for a dining table or a distinguished addition to a collection of Victorian tableware.
