A charming antique Victorian Staffordshire china inkwell, dating to circa 1880, featuring a reclining greyhound resting on a deep cobalt blue base. The elegantly modelled dog has an elongated muzzle, slender legs and a graceful curved body, with warm tan colouring across its back, contrasting white areas and finely painted facial details.
The greyhound wears a delicate gilt collar, while the shaped base is decorated with flowing gilt lines and a circular opening for ink. The combination of the relaxed pose, expressive features and rich blue colouring gives this piece plenty of character. An appealing example of Victorian Staffordshire animal figures, it would make a delightful decorative addition to a desk, writing table or collection of antique ceramics.
