An impressive Victorian silver plated warming dish dating to circa 1880, designed with a broad oval body, substantial domed cover and a pair of richly decorated side handles. The border is finished with bold ribbed detailing and shell motifs, while the raised base rests on elaborate scroll and foliate feet. The removable cover is topped with an ornate oval handle, echoing the decorative treatment found throughout the piece.
The dish is designed with a hot water reservoir beneath the serving area, allowing hot water to be added through the small side filling aperture to help keep food warm at the table. We particularly like how discreetly this practical feature is incorporated into such a decorative piece, with the removable cap sitting neatly beneath the ornate border.
The generous proportions and strong decorative presence make this a particularly appealing Victorian table piece, equally suited to traditional entertaining or display on a sideboard or dining table.
