Antique Continental Silver and Gilt Engraved Box – circa 1900

A charming antique Continental silver box of rectangular form, extensively decorated with crisp engraved detail. The lid features an attractive scenic vignette of an elaborate group of buildings, framed by scrolling ornament, flowers and geometric engraving, while the shaped edges and pointed corner details give the box a distinctive decorative finish.

The hinged lid opens to reveal a contrasting gilt interior. We particularly like the amount of detail worked into the central scene, from the varied rooflines and towers to the fine linear shading that gives the design depth. Further engraved decoration continues around the sides and across the underside, making this an appealing piece from every angle.

Compact and highly decorative, it would make a lovely keepsake or box as well as an attractive addition to a collection of antique silver.
