Antique Victorian Silver Plated Antler Obelisks circa 1880

A striking pair of Victorian silver plated and antler obelisks dating to circa 1880. Each has a tall natural antler upright mounted within a decorative collar, rising from a stepped square base with beaded borders and classical swag ornament. Their strong vertical form and contrasting materials give the pair considerable presence.

Pieces of this type were most likely intended as decorative table, sideboard or mantel ornaments, particularly suited to the country-house and sporting interiors popular during the Victorian period. Displayed as a pair, they would work well flanking a clock, centrepiece or other ornament.
