Antique Victorian Silver Plated Elkington Candlesticks Pair 1869

An impressive pair of Victorian silver plated candlesticks by Elkington, with the supplied date letter ‘G’ for 1869. Each has a substantial shaped square base richly decorated with scrolling foliate ornament, rising through a stepped circular collar to a tall, elegantly proportioned stem.

The stems combine turned and knopped sections with elongated fluted panels and further foliate detailing, giving the pair a strong architectural presence. Above are cylindrical candle sockets with detachable drip pans, each formed with a distinctive scalloped edge and bold leaf decoration.

Their matching design, generous decorative work and tall proportions make these candlesticks particularly effective displayed as a pair on a dining table, mantelpiece or sideboard, where the relief decoration catches the light especially well.
