Antique Victorian Burr Walnut Card Box Inlaid Playing Card Motif circa 1880

A characterful Victorian Burr Walnut card box dating to circa 1880, with richly figured surfaces and contrasting inlaid decoration. The lid is particularly striking, centred with three overlapping playing cards picked out in red and black suits, while the front is embellished with small diamond-shaped dice motifs complete with black pips.

The box opens to reveal a fitted divided interior with shaped, scalloped cut-outs for easy access to the contents. We particularly like the way the decoration continues the gaming theme from the playing cards on the lid to the dice on the front, giving the piece a playful but well-balanced appearance.

Both decorative and practical, it would make an appealing addition to a games table or collection of Victorian gaming accessories, while also working well as a compact display box.
