A substantial pair of Victorian silver plated entree dishes by Elkington and Co, bearing the Elkington date letter Y for 1884. Each has a rectangular form with gently shaped sides and a broad border enriched with finely detailed reeded decoration, giving the pair a particularly smart and well-balanced appearance.
The removable domed covers continue the same decorative border and are finished with prominent circular ring handles. When removed, the covers can be inverted and used as additional serving dishes, making this an especially versatile table setting. The bases are raised on neat circular feet and fitted with decorative side handles featuring finely modelled foliate and bud-like detailing.
Together, the matching dishes have an impressive presence on the dining table and provide an elegant way to serve vegetables, side dishes or other courses. The combination of generously proportioned serving dishes, removable covers and decorative handles makes them equally appealing for formal entertaining or display.
