A particularly striking Art Deco sterling silver and glass cruet set, Birmingham 1935, featuring the supplied Jubilee mark. The strongly geometric form gives the set considerable character, with faceted polygonal bodies, angular rims and distinctive shaped feet creating a crisp architectural profile.
The set comprises a lidded mustard pot, an open salt and a pepper caster, accompanied by two spoons. Both the mustard and salt are fitted with rich cobalt blue glass liners, their deep colour providing an attractive contrast against the polished sterling silver. The mustard has a hinged angular lid with a shaped thumbpiece and spoon aperture, while the pepper caster has a tall faceted body and removable pierced domed top.
We particularly like the unusual combination of angular silverwork and intensely coloured glass liners; the repeated facets and neatly detailed feet give the three pieces a wonderfully coherent appearance. A distinctive cruet set for the dining table as well as an appealing display piece for a collection of period silver.
