Antique Victorian Silver Plated Etched Glass Claret Jug circa 1880

A striking antique Victorian claret jug in silver plated metal and etched glass, dating to circa 1880. The jug has a notably tall, tapering form, with a clear glass body engraved in vertical panels of geometric and star-cut style decoration. The silver plated mount is equally appealing, with a shaped spout, hinged lid, decorative collar and an elegant finial to the top.

The long sweeping handle gives the piece a particularly graceful silhouette, while the etched decoration adds crisp detail without overwhelming the form. We particularly like the combination of the slender proportions and the bright, architectural glass cutting.
