A Fantastic Antique French Claret Jug combining a substantial cut crystal body with an extensively decorated silver mount. The tall tapering crystal body is finely cut with an all-over diamond lattice pattern that produces excellent brilliance and depth.
The silver mount is designed in a refined Neoclassical or Louis XVI Revival manner, with repeated anthemion-style borders and restrained foliate ornament. A hinged domed cover is surmounted by a finely modelled bud-form finial and opens to reveal a warm gilt interior. The silver mount is marked with the Minerva head hallmark for French Silver – circa 1870.
