A Fantastic Pair of Antique Continental Silver Plated Candlesticks designed in an elaborate Rococo Revival manner with richly modelled scrolling decoration. Each candlestick rises from a broad shaped base with pronounced shell, foliate and C-scroll ornament arranged around the perimeter.
The tall baluster-form stems are divided into several moulded sections and decorated with finely textured leaf and scroll detailing. Particularly distinctive are the opposing bird or eagle-head motifs positioned around the lower stem and shoulder areas. The upper candle sockets continue the scrolling decorative scheme and are finished with broad removable drip pans or nozzles – circa 1880.
