Antique Continental Silver On Copper Filigree Vesta Match Safe – circa 1910

This Antique Continental Filigree Vesta Match Safe is fashioned in silver on copper and features an unusually intricate openwork filigree exterior. The rectangular body is covered with repeating foliate motifs formed from fine scrolling wirework arranged in a highly symmetrical pattern.

The filigree decoration continues across the lid, sides and upper surfaces, giving the case an especially complete and cohesive appearance. The underside incorporates a finely textured striking surface, an important functional feature of traditional vesta cases – circa 1910.
