A Fantastic Antique Victorian Stoneware Jug produced by Doulton Lambeth to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. The body is finished in characteristic warm brown and buff tones with contrasting applied relief decoration.
A crowned “VR” monogram and the date 1887 form the principal commemorative decoration to the front of the jug. The jug is further distinguished by a substantial sterling silver-mounted rim with a shaped pouring lip and restrained linear detailing. Hallmarked for Sheffield, 1887.
* Displayed on its own or amongst period ceramics, the combination of silver, stoneware and royal symbolism gives this jug considerable historical character!
