A Distinctive Antique Sterling Silver Letter Opener modelled as a traditional Scottish dirk. The long tapering blade has a faceted profile and a softly rounded point suitable for opening correspondence. Its sculptural handle is formed as a basket-hilted sword with a domed pommel and curved guard. Warm reddish-brown agate stone panels are set beneath the silver latticework of the handle. Hallmarked for Birmingham, 1909.
