A Really Splendid Antique Victorian Oak Acorn Shaped Biscuit Box. A pull off silver-plated lid is fitted with a shaped finial and a broad polished rim. The box retains its fitted white china liner, allowing biscuits or other dry contents to be stored without direct contact with the wood. Applied lion-mask mounts at either side support loose ring handles for lifting and carrying.
A vacant shield-shaped cartouche is attached to the front and remains suitable for optional personalisation. The rounded body is raised on a silver-plated base plate with three ball feet that provide stability and visual lift – circa 1890.
* Displayed on a dresser or sideboard, this unusual container brings naturalistic form and period craftsmanship into the room.
