A Really Superb Antique Victorian Silver-Plated Oval Biscuit Barrel. The exterior is decorated with engraved floral bands, scrolling ornament and an elaborate central cartouche. The hinged lid is finished with a mother of pearl finial. A repeating engraved floral border follows the curve of the domed lid.
A pair of cast ram’s head mounts supports loose ring handles at either side. The ram’s head decoration gives the piece a strong classical and neoclassical character – circa 1880.
* Displayed on a dining table or sideboard, the ram’s head ring handles give this biscuit barrel a commanding classical presence.
