A Really Gorgeous Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Cream Jug. Its strikingly sculptural form features a generous, bulbous body that flares elegantly into a ruffled rim, with a deeply scalloped and gilded interior. The rim’s irregular edge is shaped to mimic the folds of fabric, giving it a soft, almost floral silhouette.
The hand-chased decoration across the body displays stylised drapery and floral garlands in high relief, balanced by smooth polished silver panels that reflect light beautifully. The handle is particularly elegant, with a twisted design and a thumb rest that gracefully curves upward in a refined arc. Hallmarked for London, 1885.
* A versatile piece for serving cream, milk, or even small floral arrangements, it also stands alone as a decorative display item or collectible piece of British silver.
Measurements:
Height: 5 1/2" (approx. 14cm)
Width spout to handle: 4" (approx. 10cm)
Silver weight: 134g
This jug remains in excellent condition for its age, with crisp decoration, a well-preserved gilt interior, and only minimal age-related surface marks. It presents beautifully and is entirely functional should you wish to use it.
