A Gorgeous Antique Elkington Etched Glass & Silver-Plated Claret Jug showcasing a magnificent blend of neoclassical elegance and Victorian craftsmanship. The lid and collar depict figures in motion - dancers, horses, and musicians - reminiscent of Greco-Roman friezes, with subtle copper-toned highlights enhancing the depth and drama.
Topped with a thistle-style finial and adorned with vine and scroll motifs, the handle’s sculptural quality matches the grandeur of the overall design.
The inside of the lid and pour spout are finished in a warm gilt tone, often used to protect the contents and enhance the luxurious feel and the lower rim is embellished with a Greek key pattern, grounding the piece in neoclassical aesthetic tradition. The base is marked for the renowned maker ‘Elkington’ – circa 1870.
