A Fabulous Continental Wrought Iron “Courting” Candlestick. Step back into the intimacy of the early 1700s with this rare wrought iron courting candlestick. Sometimes referred to as a “courting candle,” this ingenious design allowed a candle's height - and burn time - to be adjusted, often said to determine how long a suitor could stay during a visit. Whether or not this tale is myth or fact, the piece remains a captivating relic of rural domestic life and early lighting technology – circa 1700.
