An Exceptional Antique Victorian Silver-Plated & Cut-Glass Butter Dish by Elkington & Co., featuring a fine cut glass body and ornately engraved silver-plated lid. The rectangular cut-glass dish has canted corners and is deeply decorated with hobnail and starburst cutting, the base with a radiant star motif. The glass dish is mounted in a robust Elkington silver plated frame with beaded edging and resting on four bold bracket feet, with triangular handles at each end. The unusual lid is formed from hinged twin covers, beautifully engraved with scrolling floral sprays and leaves, with shaped edges that echo the outline of the dish. Marked ‘Elkington’ with the letter ‘L’ for the year 1879.

In good condition – Original plating retains a bright surface with light rubbing to high points and some age-appropriate wear. The glass is well preserved with no chips or cracks. The hinges open and close smoothly, and the lids sit flush.
