A shield-shaped central cartouche is left clear for initials or a small presentation engraving. The base edge shows a ribbed striker section, intended for lighting matches in the traditional way. Hallmarked for Birmingham, 1906.
* A vesta case is one of those small silver objects that instantly evokes the rituals of everyday life a century ago.
