The border is finished with a bold beaded edge that frames the piece with a classic, jewellery-like detail. The centre is finely engraved with a circular arrangement of cartouche medallions and scrolling foliage. The tray is raised on small ornamental feet, allowing it to sit proudly on a table or sideboard – circa 1890.
