A Nice Antique Silver Mote Spoon, designed for lifting and straining tea leaves from the cup. The oval bowl is pierced with an ornate scrolling device, allowing liquid to drain while retaining the leaves. The long, slender handle gives reach into deeper cups and bowls and keeps the hand away from hot tea. The handle terminates in a fine tapered point, a form often associated with mote spoons and useful for dislodging leaves from a teapot spout. Marked with the makers mark ‘W’ – circa 1780.
