A fine example of early optical craftsmanship, this antique single-draw nickel telescope was made by Ross of London, a well-known British manufacturer of high-quality scientific instruments. The telescope bears the engraved maker’s mark “ROSS, No. 81498,” identifying it as an authentic piece likely dating to the early 20th century.
The main barrel is wrapped in original leather, providing grip and protection, while the draw tube and fittings are crafted in polished nickel. Fully extendable and functional, this telescope would have been used by a naval officer, merchant seaman, or perhaps an explorer – circa 1915.
