Each has a tall natural antler upright mounted within a decorative collar, rising from a stepped square base with beaded borders and classical swag ornament. Their strong vertical form and contrasting materials give the pair considerable presence.

Pieces of this type were most likely intended as decorative table, sideboard or mantel ornaments, particularly suited to the country-house and sporting interiors popular during the Victorian period.
